Introduction

Productions are not the core business of Canonbase, we only add them in function of the other content. Other databases are specialised in this matter. Therefore we minimise the amount of information and link to other specialised sources, preferably through wikidata.

We do add productions when the are

  • relevant to the history of a building
  • document the use of specific equipment
  • document the work of a designer

Header

Label*

  • The name of the production in it's original language
  • We do not translate this
  • Use the most frequent name as label, note alternative names in the also known as field.
  • Copy the original name in your language

Description

  • You can give a short (max 30 words) description of the production.
  • This will (not always) be translated

Also known as

  • This field is used to facilitate searching.
  • Add alternative spelling
  • Add nicknames

Field (P19)*

  • The [Field] is always "artistic production (Q23054)"

Type of information (P11)*

  • The [type of information] is always FIXME

Importance (P20)

  • Defines how important this performance was for the history of technical theatre, it is used to select items for large visualisations.
Importance value list (Q8)

Context (P47)

  • Can be used to give more information about the performance, the importance, etc.
  • Text length is limited, if needed add a second value.
  • Language is mandatory (fill the language of the text.)
  • If the information is retrieved from an existing source, add a qualifier source (P63) or source URL (P64)

Link to internal Wikipage (P23)

  • This is a link to a wiki-page that will appear on top of the page, with more detailed information about the performance.
  • Language (P35)
    • Language of the wiki-page.
    • This is a obligatory qualifier

Significant date (P237)

  • A date that is significant for the performance, and is not captured in the standard set of date properties available.
  • Needs a qualifier timeline label (this is shown on the timeline and in lists to make the date visible.)
  • Describe the event in a context qualifier

Date of first performance (P114)

  • The date of the first public performance

Relations

producer (P386)

  • refers to the producer of the production.

based on (P385)

  • refers to the play a production was based on.

version of (P387)

  • Refers to a version of a production, for example where the production has changed between venues. This may happen on a tour, where large changes to the production are needed, or if the production transfers between theatres, or is revived after several years.

has version(s) (inverse property label of version of (P387))

  • Refers to the versions of this production.
  • Add a statement with the property [production] to the item-page of the version. When done, [has version(s)] will appear as a statement on the item-page of the production.

has design (inverse property label of production (P356))

  • Refers to a design that was created for this production.
  • Add a statement with the property [production] to the item-page of the design. When done, [has design] will appear as a statement on the item-page of the production.

Significant equipment (P89)

  • Refers to equipment that was significant for the performance
  • This can include fly bar systems, revolves, trap systems, …

Significant person (P87)

  • Refers to a person that was significant for the production.
  • Describe the significance in a context (P47) qualifier.

worked here (inverse property label of Has worked in (P227))

  • Refers to an person that worked for the production.

has performance(s) (inverse property label of is performance of (P388))

  • refers to specific performance(s) of the production.
  • Add a statement with the property [is performance of] to the item-page of the performance, link there to the production. When done, [has performance(s)] will appear as a statement on the item-page of the production.


Tags (P22)

Geographic information

venue of first performance (P384)

  • refers to the performance venue where a production was first performed (opening night).
  • use the property date of first performance (P114) to add the date of the first performance.

venue of other performances (P125)

  • refers to a location where a production was performed (but not on the opening night).
  • use the qualifier point in time (P45) to add a specific time.
  • Mostly this will be a theatre space, but can also be a city or a country.

Media

Image (P2) or Internal image (P24)

  • A picture representing the business, for example a logo.
  • An [image] refers to a picture in the wiki repository of images (commons.wikimedia.org) You can link by copying the name of the file from wikipedia or from the repository.
  • An [Internal image] refers to a picture in our own repository. Upload the document first and copy the link here. (You have to be sure that the picture is open source.)
  • Wikicommons images are preferable
  • if you add a qualifier Instance of (P1) with value “featured image" (Q105), the picture will show automatically on top of the page.

Youtube video (P116)

  • A video on youtube about this performance.
  • If the video mentions multiple persons, businesses or subjects, make a separate source for it and use the mentions property to refer to the person.
  • Copy the string after ?v= in the Youtube url and paste it in the [Youtube video] property.

Internal video (P76) or Wikicommons media (P8)

  • A video on about this P116.
  • If the video mentions multiple persons, businesses or subjects, make a separate source item for it and use the mentions property to refer to the person.
  • An Wikicommons media refers to a picture in the wiki repository of videos (commons.wikimedia.org) You can link by copying the name of the file from wikipedia or from the repository.
  • An Internal video refers to a video in our own repository. Upload the video first and copy the link here. (You have to be sure that the picture is open source.)

Commons galery (P181)

  • A link to the commons galery
  • Copy the last part of the domain name into the property
  • Large videos are preferably stored outside of the platform due the limitations of file size.

  • A web resource that is dedicated to this performance only

Source URL (P64)

  • A web resource that is used as an information source for this item.
  • If specific information is retrieved from a source, add this property as qualifier

is mentioned in (inverse property label of mentions, P78)

  • Describes the source a busness is mentioned in.
  • The input is done on the source side.

Wikidata source (P16)

  • Refers to an entry in Wikidata (https://www.wikidata.org )
  • If the business exists in Wikidata, add Q-number from Wikidata
  • The information from wikidata will partly be displayed at the bottom of the page.
