Espropriato dal Comune nel 1947 e demolito senza tener minimamente conto della sua elegante struttura architettonica, il Teatro Goldoni (già di S. Luca) è invece da anni in corso di ricostruzione e dovrebbe diventare la sede di queiristituendo Teati’o Stabile di Venezia di cui tanto si parla e si è parlato, ma che esiste solo nel limbo delle buone intenzioni. Era un antichissimo teatro storico risalente alla prima metà del seicento. Più volte ricostruito e restaurato aveva sempre ospitato importanti stagioni di prosa. Chiuso nel 1947 perchè ormai inagibile, è stato espropriato e completamente demolito. Da venti anni il Comune veneziano ne ha iniziata la ricostruzione che è rimasta però sospesa, nè si sa quando potrà essere ultimata. (Italian)

Opened 1622 as Teatro Vendramin, named after its owners. Also known as Teatro San Salvatore or Teatro San Luca. Destroyed by a fire in 1653. Subsequently rebuilt. Closed 1807. 1817 major rebuildings, reopened 1818. 1833 alterations, reopened 28 Sep 1833 as Teatro Apollo. 1875 renamed Teatro Goldoni in honour of the Italian playwright, Carlo Goldoni (1707-1793). Closed after World War II due to safety reasons, 1957 dispossessed from the Vendram family. Reopened 1979. Currently one of the homes of the Theatre Stabile del Veneto Carlo Goldoni drama company.
